Dining Room & Library Remodel

A small isolated Dining Room and no place for all their books prompted these homeowners to enlist my architectural services on this unique remodel. The existing 13 x 11.5 foot Dining Room on the front of the home was too small to accommodate the 10 person sit-down dinner parties the Owners wanted to host. The existing 12 x 14 foot Study on the back of the home could have worked but by removing an unnecessary Hallway a 14 x 16 foot Dining Room was created. Another wall was eliminated opening the new Dining Room to the existing Breakfast area at the end of the Kitchen.

The existing windows were replaced with 6 foot wide French doors and a brick landing with steps down to the on-grade Terrace was added. Now 10 person dinner parties can be held at a single long table and on warm summer evenings the French doors can be opened to enjoy the fragrant garden. The existing Dining Room door from the Kitchen was eliminated and mahogany bookshelves were fabricated to cover the entire wall. Ample room was available for a settee and two upholstered armchairs. The new Library holds all the Owner’s books and provides the perfect place to comfortably sit and enjoy them.
