1925 Farmhouse Remodel
1925 Farmhouse Remodel
The original home and barn on this acreage was built in 1925. The new Owners have memories of the July 1969 Bullfrog Music Festival featuring Jefferson Airplane that was held on the property. The home had been remodeled and expanded previously beyond the original 1-1/2 story rectangle with its 8 foot deep wrap-around covered porch. In this remodel the whole home interior was reconfigured but the farmhouse charm was retained inside and out.
On the Main Floor, what was an enclosed porch became a new Entry space with a Coat Closet. The balance of the enclosed porch was utilized as the Laundry/Pantry area adjacent to the new 14 x 14 foot Kitchen. The new Living Room is approximately 14 x 23 feet and the new Dining Room that is open to the Kitchen is 11 x 20 feet. The Owner is building a dining table with wood from an on site tree that will accommodate 14 with extensions on each end. As well as a full Guest Bath, the Main Floor also has room for a Home Office/Guest Room.
The Upper Floor of the home is a Master Suite with a generous 11 x 22 foot Bedroom, an 8 x 16 foot Master Bath and a 7 x 14 foot Walk-In Closet. Floors throughout the home except for the Baths, Laundry and Walk-in Closet are surfaced in random 1×6 and 1×4 solid fir boards that have been coated with a clear water based commercial Swedish finish. The Bath floors, tub and shower surrounds are surfaced with 18 x 18 inch Carrara marble tile. All the counter tops are Carrara marble slabs as well as the Kitchen backsplash and Laundry backsplash. The Laundry floor, the wood stove hearth and back wall are finished in 18 x 18 inch Montauk black slate tile.
To reinforce the farmhouse feel all the windows except in the Bath and Closet are fitted with fabric roller shades. The exterior of the home was re-roofed and siding was replaced as necessary. The exterior walls were insulated. The home and adjacent barn were painted in a dark charcoal color with white trim. The new front door was finished with an oxblood red high-gloss paint. All the exterior steps to the porch were rebuilt with concrete bottom treads. In virtually the same envelope the home has been completely reconfigured for the new Owners personal requirements.
