1965 Kitchen & Family Room Remodel
Incorporating the existing Breakfast Room into this home’s original 9 x 11 foot enclosed Kitchen allowed the creation of this new generous state-of-the-art Kitchen and Family Room open plan configuration. The adjacent Laundry Room was updated also.
The dramatic dark casework and floor in the Kitchen and Family Room is balanced with the light neutral toned granite counter tops, fireplace surround and hearth. New 9-1/2 foot wide sliding glass doors replaced a 9 foot wide window in the former Breakfast Room. The new doors echo the existing doors from the Family Room to the Terrace.
In the Kitchen a double oven on one side and a refrigerator on the other bracket the ample counter top with new gas cook top. A 6 x 9 foot island accommodates a seating area with stools, a large sink, a dishwasher, storage and a generous counter top that doubles nicely as a buffet for large gatherings. The location of the counter seating at the end of the island allows the family to watch the morning news while eating breakfast.
The dark casework in the Family Room does an excellent job obscuring the flat screen TV when it is not being watched. The TV is mounted on an arm that allows it to rotate to a 45-degree angle for viewing from the Family Room seating and Kitchen.
New high windows on each side of the fireplace provide welcome daylight to that end of the room while preserving privacy from the neighborhood street beyond. The recessed lighting in both rooms illuminates the walls, casework and work areas. The Owners are very pleased with the new expanded space, the increased access to the Terrace and the integration of the Kitchen with the Family Room.
